How do invoice renewals work?

What are Invoice Renewals?

Invoice Renewals allow you to add recurring charges to an invoice so your customer is automatically billed on a set schedule.

This is ideal for ongoing services like staging rentals, recurring photography, or any project that spans multiple billing periods.

How to set up a renewal

1. Open an existing unpaid invoice or create a new one.
2. Locate the Renewal section on the left rail.
3. Toggle it on and set the charge amount and billing frequency.
4. Save the invoice.

Once saved, your customer will be billed automatically based on the schedule you set.

Managing a renewal

You can manage an active renewal from the project page:

1. Go to home page
2. In the left rail, go to Projects
3. Find the project the renewal is for, view that project
4. Find the Renewals card
5. Click View to open the renewal management drawer

Charge Now
In the renewal management drawer, this option triggers a renewal charge immediately instead of waiting for the next scheduled date.

Stop with Final Charge
End the recurring service by processing one final charge, then cancel all future renewals. This ensures any remaining balance is collected.

Customer consent

Recurring charges require customer consent before they can be processed, which will be collected when they pay the first invoice that creates the renewal schedule.

If consent has not been provided, the renewal will be disabled until it is completed. This ensures transparency and agreement for all recurring billing.

FAQs

Can my customer see the renewal on their invoice?
Your customer will not see the renewal configurations (charge, frequency) on their invoices. However, for each renewal charge, they will receive a copy of the invoice for that charge.

Can I change the renewal amount?
Yes. You can manage the renewal in Projects -> Project page -> Renewals card -> View button
