Setting Up Invoice Line Items in Proposals

Overview

The invoice section of a Titus proposal has three line item categories: Base Services, Package Options, and Optional Add-ons. Used together, they let your client see your fixed charges, pick the staging package they want, and add extras before they accept and pay.

Important: Package Options and Optional Add-ons only work when you build the invoice inside a proposal. If you create an invoice on its own, outside the proposal tool, your client won't be able to choose a package or select add-ons.

Category What it's for What your client does
Base Services Fixed charges that apply to every job Nothing. These are always included.
Package Options Your staging packages, each as its own line item Chooses exactly one package (required)
Optional Add-ons Extras the client can add if they want them Checks a box for each add-on they want

Before you start: build the invoice inside your proposal

Always start from the proposal tool when you want to offer packages or add-ons. The invoice section of a proposal is the only place where all three line item categories work.

  1. Go to Proposals and create a new proposal (or open a draft).
  2. Scroll to the Invoice section of the proposal.
  3. Add your line items there, using the categories described below.

If you've already created a standalone invoice and want to offer packages or add-ons, create a new proposal and rebuild the line items in its invoice section. Package Options and Optional Add-ons set up on a standalone invoice won't give your client a way to choose.

Base Services

Base Services are your fixed line items. They're included on every proposal you send with them, and your client can't remove them. Use this category for charges that apply no matter which package the client picks, such as a consultation fee, delivery and pickup, or design time.

To add a Base Service:

  1. In the proposal's Invoice section, find Base Services.
  2. Add a line item.
  3. Enter a name, a short description, and the price.
  4. Repeat for each fixed charge.

Tip: Keep anything the client should be able to decline out of Base Services. Put it under Optional Add-ons instead.

Package Options

Package Options let you list each of your staging packages as a separate line item. Your client is required to choose one of them before they can accept the proposal, and they can only choose one.

To add Package Options:

  1. In the proposal's Invoice section, find Package Options.
  2. Add a line item for your first package.
  3. Enter the package name, a description of what's included, and the price.
  4. Add a separate line item for each additional package you want to offer.

Tips:

  • Offer at least two packages. With only one, there's nothing for the client to choose between.
  • Spell out the differences in each description (number of rooms, rental length, furniture tier) so the client can compare at a glance.
  • Keep anything that applies to every package in Base Services rather than repeating it in each package.

Optional Add-ons

Optional Add-ons are extras your client can choose to include. Each add-on shows up with a checkbox, and the client checks the box for each one they want before they accept and pay. They can pick as many as they like, or none at all.

To add Optional Add-ons:

  1. In the proposal's Invoice section, find Optional Add-ons.
  2. Add a line item.
  3. Enter the add-on name, a short description, and the price.
  4. Repeat for each add-on you want to offer.

Good candidates for add-ons include extra rental months, additional rooms, outdoor or patio staging, and rush scheduling.

Example setup

Here's how a typical staging proposal might be set up. The client's total is the Base Services, plus the package they choose, plus any add-ons they check.

Category Line item Price
Base Services Design consultation $250
Base Services Delivery and pickup $400
Package Options Essentials: up to 4 rooms, 30-day rental $2,400
Package Options Signature: up to 7 rooms, 30-day rental $3,600
Optional Add-ons Extra rental month $600
Optional Add-ons Outdoor patio staging $450

If the client picks Signature and checks Outdoor patio staging, they pay $250 + $400 + $3,600 + $450 = $4,700.

Frequently asked questions

I created an invoice, but my client can't choose a package or add-ons. Why? The invoice was most likely created on its own instead of inside a proposal. Package Options and Optional Add-ons only work in the invoice section of a proposal. Create a proposal and set up the line items there.

Can my client choose more than one package? No. The client must choose exactly one package from your Package Options.

Does my client have to select any add-ons? No. Add-ons are optional. The client can check as many as they want, or none.

Can my client remove a Base Service? No. Base Services are always included in the total.
