What happens if my homeowner information can't be verified?
If you’re applying for a home loan and we’re unable to verify that the property belongs to you, you’ll be shown a screen explaining your next steps instead of the application getting stuck. What happens next depends on what we found during the check.
If the address looks correct and you are the homeowner
We’ll ask you to upload proof of ownership. You can submit any one of the following:
- Property tax record
- Property deed
- Closing disclosure (settlement statement)
- Bill of sale
Once uploaded, you can resubmit your application and we’ll review the document.
If the address is incorrect
You’ll be able to update it directly on the screen. This usually happens due to a typo, a recent move, or a missing apartment/unit number.
After correcting the address, resubmit your application and we’ll rerun the property verification.
If you are not the homeowner
We’re unable to approve a homeowner loan if the applicant is not listed as the property owner. In this case, the homeowner will need to submit their own application. You can share the application link with them directly.
FAQ
How long does manual review take after I upload my document?
Most reviews are completed within a few minutes, though it may take longer during busy periods.
What if my property is owned through a trust or LLC?
You can still upload the deed. In many cases we can verify ownership through the entity, or we may request additional documentation if needed.
Can I upload more than one document?
Yes. You can upload multiple documents if needed, but it’s best to start with the clearest proof of ownership first.
