Why was a customer's payment to my business declined?
When a customer sends you pay at close funds, the request is reviewed before the money moves. Most clear immediately. A small number are declined because the request involves restricted or suspicious activity. Advances are to the discretion of Titus. In all cases the loan or borrower agreement governs the relationship.
Common reasons
- You're related to the customer. Funds can't be sent to the borrower, their spouse or partner, a family member, another member of their household, or a business partner of your’s or the borrower’s (either past or present).a business any of those people own or control as self-dealing.
- You have ownership interest in the subject property
- The work isn't eligible. Funds are for preparing the customer's listed property for sale. They can't cover another property, pay off other debt, or fund personal expenses.
- The property is being flipped. Pay at close isn't available for properties acquired to be renovated and resold.
- We couldn't verify your business. Every business receiving funds is verified, along with the person managing its Titus account. If we can't confirm your business details or validity, ownership, or that account holder's authority, funds are held until we can.
What this means for you
A declined disbursement doesn't affect your other payouts, your account standing, or funds you've already received. It only means that particular request wasn't funded. However, if we suspect fraudulent activity your account may be terminated and all activity suspended until Titus has been able to complete a compliance review.
Because of that, treat a customer's approval as separate from a completed payment. Wait for the disbursement to land before scheduling work you're depending on that payment to cover.
What to do
- Check your business profile. Make sure your legal name, ownership details, and account administrator are current. Most verification declines clear once these are up to date.
- Don't ask the customer to route funds another way. Sending funds to the borrower, to you personally, or through a third party won't work and may lock the customer's loan.
- Contact us. Email support@gotitus.com with the customer's name, the listing address, and your invoice or proposal. We'll tell you what's needed, or let the customer know if we can only discuss it with them.
Some details we can only share with the borrower. If a request was declined for reasons specific to their account or credit, we'll work with them directly.
